This is a design of a house with a main house and a detached house to carry on the tradition to the present and to develop it for the future.

The site is located in Nishijin, Kyoto, a town where Nishijin textiles, one of Japan's leading traditional industries, is located. The project involves the renovation of a machiya (townhouse) in the form of a "weaver's house," in which craftsmen used to live in and weave Nishijin textiles, including the adjacent land. The residents will be three new craftsmen who are newcomers to the Nishijin textile industry and who make products and furniture using Nishijin textiles. In this place where work and residence are closely connected, the "town" of Nishijin with its traditions and history is connected to the "house" where daily life is created by using the weaving house as a detached house. The "detached house" is an element that can expand and complement the functions of the house, and by using this element, the history of the "town" and its people are extended to the "detached house". On the other hand, the activities to create/take over the traditions of the "house" are extended to the weaving house as a detached house. The beauty and functionality of the original space of the weaving house will be reconstructed in the modern age by using different methods of extension, reduction, and maintenance of the existing structure.

This house is a new base for promoting Nishijin textiles as a new tradition, and a base for taking over and developing the tradition.
